Hungry Girls, Unite!
I apologize for the non-existent posting schedule, but I’ve worked days, nights and weekends for about a month now and my free time is spent, oh, you know … sleeping. Pretty much.
But I’m coming out of hibernation briefly to let you know that I got my hands on a new book called Hungry Girl: Recipes and Survival Strategies for Guilt-Free Eating in the Real World by Lisa Lillien, curator of "tips and tricks for hungry chicks" over at HungryGirl.com.
For every woman who has ever found herself eating random, weird crap because they only had a smattering of Weight Watchers points left for the day, this book will feel like home – but I mean in a good way, where you actually feel satisfied and happy, rather than ashamed for rutting around in the cabinets to throw together tasty (but low-cal) odds and ends. And Lisa makes it sound more like a fun game, and like she’s your BFF and life is a big slumber party.
After looking around for a few fun concoctions, I rediscovered the joys of Keebler ice cream cups – at only 15 calories each.
There’s a whole chapter on chocolate, and at least one recipe – for chocolate coated mousse-cream cones – involves Cool Whip Free, which I could eat straight from the carton. Always a bonus.
I made her French toast, and while I was slightly underwhelmed while I was having my breakfast, I was wildly impressed with the simple prep and the fact that I was full for hours and hours. So I’ll definitely make that one again.
Aside from some new discoveries, the book also inspired me to go back to certain foods I’d forgotten about – like the joys of throwing together a quick and tasty wrap; and I bought hot dogs for the first time in like, ever, which is a fun summertime favorite for me.
Unfortunately, I’ve taken to eating my food out of a bag lately because of time issues, but when I get five minutes, I’ll definitely be poking around in this book for more fun snacks and lunches.
And I’ve already decided that tonight for dessert, I’m going to have a chocolate-coated-mousse-cream cone to ease my pain
