Drama and Intrigue

Here's an interesting new development. My mom recently hinted not-so-subtly that I should get married in New Jersey, "near the bride's family." I was like, how about NEAR THE BRIDE. As Mom has pointed out in the past, I haven't lived at home since high school, so why on earth would I feel the need to get married there? So, we'll see where that battle takes us.

We're going up Thanksgiving weekend to look at Seaview, which is a golf resort and spa near Atlantic City that I think would make everyone happy, so I'm hoping that's what we decide on. They promise "Gatsby-like elegance" for our big day.

Humor me for a moment, and let’s play a word association game. In my mind, the word Gatsby immediately brings to mind drunkenness. I will admit that this is not a direct association, but a mental leap towards author F. Scott Fitzgerald’s alcoholism. So when I reel it in and concentrate on the book, still the word Gatsby refuses to conjure the word elegance, because then I think of unrequited love and murder. But we’ll let that slide. Because if we don't get married at Seaview in drunken, murderous elegance, then I wanted to do it down here near D.C. And then obviously we're going to have to mud wrestle for the location.

Steve and I are thinking we would like to get married in the May or June 2008 timeframe, but here's my order of events.
1. Pick a location (Seaview, please please please)
2. Based on their availability, pick a date. Hopefully May or June, but if not, then July or August.
3. Deal with all the other crap.
So to sum up, we haven't done anything yet. Gotta pick the place first, since everything else more or less depends on it.

In other news, the hiring manager at the job I applied for has called all my references, and told one of them that there is another serious candidate vying for the job. So I'm waiting to find out about that. I guess the good thing is that it's making me want the job more to find out that it's not mine to have. Or is that Not the good thing. Whatever. It's Monday. I am hating life right now.

And why is it that as soon as I decide I should probably drop a couple pounds so that I look good in the next year's worth of pictures, I need to keep shoveling crap in my mouth that I don't even want? Huh? What is UP with that?

The same thing happened to me. I can NOT stop the eating. Maybe it's because I'm relieved that I already bought my wedding dress, but if things continue they way they are? Said wedding dress is not going to fit me. :)

Good for you to have your wedding where YOU want it. Our friends just wed in Austin and their families are from Arlington (about 4 or so hours south) but this is their 2nd marriage each. They wanted this to be about them (and all weddings should be!!). The ceremony was on the top of a hill in an outdoor chapel overlooking all of Austin and the Hill Country. How great. They will remember that with such a great sense of loving and adventure than a church would have offered where one of the families "thought" they should get married. How many times do couples regret that they didn't do it for "them?" [Raise hand!]

Also, remember that when you have an anniversary you want the weather to coincide with where you want to celebrate (i.e. March - snow skiing, July - beach). I know that sounds trivial but we married in March and the weather seems to not cooperate since we are beach people. July or August isn't Hurricane weather yet but still warm in most places.

I love following your adventures after being married 17 years. You guys have the whole world in your hands!

Good Luck ~ Not only with your upcoming marriage but with your Great American Novel. I'll be waiting for the publication.

A VERY belated congrats to you. Just in case you'd like, I took a course for wedding planning and event management as well as planning 4 weddings now, and although I'm not asking that you 'hire' me, I could send you all the information I have s that you can be confident that you dealt with 'all the other crap'.
Just let me know!
