Procrastination: A Catalyst for Taking Action. Just in reverse order.

Hold me, I’m frightened. While there’s a lull at work, I’m going to hop down to the gym and see how I do at running five miles.

I just had an Aha! Moment. I am procrastinating going to the gym by posting about it here.

I’m procrastinating on a work assignment by going to the gym.

I almost fooled myself.

Okay, off to the gym now.

UPDATE - That was painful.

Thanks Pudwood! Another example of procrastination in action. I was putting off writing when I created it. But now that I'm accountable to you all, it keeps me writing so it all works out in the end.

You inspired me to go on a run. I have a lot of work to do tonight (I may stay up all night for the first time in a while), but it feels much better to sit and do work with some energy from exercise!

Gah! good luck with the all-nighter. I'm too elderly for that.

You might already know this stuff but I'll share with you what I've learned.

You said you used to do five miles before you hurt your knee? What did you do to it? And how far do you run now? You had mentioned something about two mile sprints?

I've been told by a couple of trainers that, while running on a treadmill, set the incline to two percent. It is supposed to be easier on your knees than running flat.

So that is what I do. I start out slower and only go faster later in the run if I feel like it. (I usually do as long as some angry Kelly Clarkson song comes on or some other rockin' tune. "Stronger" by Kayne West is my new favorite.) I've only been running for two years now but I do 3.25 miles four times a week. Maybe you should do shorter distances more often at first?

Anyway, good luck with that.

I'm pretty sure I hurt it because in my training I decided to increase distance and speed simultaneously. I was training for a half marathon, and the first day I wanted to run longer than five miles (and at a fast pace) I 'tweaked' it. Not really sure what exactly the injury was. Now I know not to do something that silly again.

Thanks very much for the treadmill tip. I will certainly use that. Yesterday I got to 4.75 before my knee was sore, but nothing acute and it's fine today.

I've been running two 9-minute miles a day, which for slow old me is a sprint.
